WBBSE To Promote Students Of Classes VI to IX Without Exams

Kolkata: The West Bengal Board of Secondary Education (WBBSE) will promote students of Classes VI-IX to the next class without annual examinations this year in view of the COVID-19 pandemic. This order is for schools affiliated to the WBBSE.

WBBSE said, via a letter to headmasters of the state-run and state-aided schools on Monday, that for the 2020 academic session, students of classes VI to IX will be automatically promoted to the next class without any annual exams till the COVID situation prevailed, reported EdexLive.

“However whenever the school opens and classes begin regularly, the teachers will have to first revise the old syllabus completely in the interest of students, before going to the new chapter,” a board official was quoted as saying by the website on Tuesday.

Referring to the state government’s call to not hold the selection test for Madhyamik (Class X) candidates next year, the board urged the schools to ensure its implementation.

“For the sake of preparedness by the students, the schools can hold mock tests if deemed necessary,” the official said.

Meanwhile, there is no official word or advisory on part of the government about the possible date of reopening of schools.
