Kolkata: After most national-level exams were cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, West Bengal has cancelled its secondary (Madhyamik) and Higher Secondary (Uchcha Madhyamik) exams this year.
Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee announced this on Monday. “This year no secondary or Higher Secondary examinations will be conducted. We will decide on the assessment procedure and make an announcement within seven days,” the chief minister said at a press conference earlier in the afternoon.
Public opinion was sought by the state government on whether the board exams should be held amid the pandemic and got more than 25,000 emails with suggestions. Most of them felt it would not be wise to hold the examinations in this situation.
