Why Are Delhi School Of Journalism Students So Angry

Students of Delhi University’s Delhi School of Journalism (DSJ) staged a protest outside the Arts Faculty on Wednesday, demanding the resignation of Officer on Special Duty Sanjay Verma.

The agitation erupted after a confrontation between Verma and a female student, who objected to being addressed in what she described as a disrespectful manner. The incident quickly escalated, becoming a flashpoint for wider anger over alleged gender discrimination, intimidating remarks towards women, and irregularities in academic assessments.

Students also raised concerns about women’s safety, poor infrastructure, faculty shortages, and the lack of practical training facilities despite high fees. Protesters accused the administration of ignoring repeated grievances and said Verma’s conduct symbolised deeper issues within the institution.

The demonstration drew attention to growing frustration among DSJ students over governance and accountability.
