Jeypore: A youth from backward Koraput district, Surya Prakash Mishra earned laurels for the state by clearing the all-India level entrance for admission to the prestigious Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology (IIST), Thiruvanthapuram.
The youth bagged a slot out of 30 general category seats at all India level in the Avionics branch. Mishra was naturally elated and said that his fascination for space science has earned him an opportunity to undertake research on outer space.
“I had a weakness towards space science since I started reading books of various Indian scientists. After completion of my 12th class, I had attended many all-India level entrances and clicked also. I had cleared the All India JEE Advance and got a chance to enrol at IIT. But, I later choose to peruse space science as I was keen on doing research on it. When the notification was released for the admission into IIST, I applied and managed to grab a seat in Avionics engineering which has only 30 seats at all India level,” Mishra was quoted as saying by the local media.
According to his father, Om Prakash Mishra, who himself is a national award-winning teacher, Surya would become a scientist at the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) after completing his courses successfully.
“He has to do hard labour now. At least eight hours have to be given every day. After completion of his study at the IISST, he would be appointed as a grade-A scientist at ISRO. I have written to the Central government in this regard,” the proud father said.
Om Prakash is serving as the Principal of Jeypore High School while Surya’s mother, Preeti Lata Mishra, works as an English Professor at Jeypore’s Vikram Deb Autonomous College.
