National Testing Agency Gears Up For NEET Exam 2020
New Delhi: Amid all the controversy and chaos about JEE Mains, the National Testing Agency (NTA) is gearing up for the National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test (NEET) 2020 which will be held on September 13.
Over 13 lakh students across India have enrolled for the biggest medical test. NTA has already increased the number of exam centres from 2,546 to 3,843 while the number of students sitting per room has been reduced to 12 from 24, amid the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
“For ensuring social distancing outside the examination hall, the entry and exit of candidates have been staggered. Adequate arrangements have also been made outside the examination centers to enable candidates to stand with adequate social distancing while waiting,” a senior NTA official was quoted as saying by The Indian Express.
The official added, “Candidates have also been issued an advisory guiding them about the ‘dos and don’ts’ for proper social distancing. We have also written to state governments to extend support in local movement of the candidates so that they are able to reach their examination centers on time.”
To avoid infection, hand sanitisers will be provided to the students at examination centres, admit card checking will be replaced with the barcode readers and pre-planned entry and exit are among the steps the NTA has taken. Students will have to use the masks given by the examination authority once they reach the centre.
The official added, “Each candidate will be offered a three-ply mask at the time of entry and are expected to wear the same during the examination in order to avoid any form of unfair means at the time of examination.”
Meanwhile, Odisha, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh governments have already said that they will provide transportation for students. Also, few Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) alumni and students launched a portal to provide transport facilities to exam centres for the candidates. The Metro Railway in Kolkata will also run special service for NEET candidates on September 13.
“As per the plan, candidates along with guardians will be allowed to board the trains on showing they admit cards,” Metro Railway general manager Manoj Joshi was quoted by The Indian Express.
