Independent Body To Rank Higher Educational Institutes: Centre

The All India Council For Technical Education (AICTE) has approved the creation of an independent body for ranking of higher educational institutes in the country, the Centre has informed the Parliament.

AICTE  gave its approval for the constitution of the ‘Indian Ranking Society’ in August to set up a system for the rankings, Minister of Human Resource and Development Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank said in a reply in Lok Sabha.

“The AICTE Executive Committee in its 127^th meeting held on 21.08.19, accorded approval for the creation of Independent society in the name and style of ‘Indian Ranking Society (IRS)’ with an objective to develop and evolve methodologies and system for ranking of higher educational institutions and based on such methodologies, rank and rate them under various categories, domain and sub-domain,” he said.

Presently, National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) is being used for ranking of institutes on five broad generic groups of parameters, namely –teaching, learning and resources, research and professional practice, graduation outcomes, outreach and inclusivity, perception,” it further reads.

The India Ranking, 2019 has ranked Indian Higher Educational Institutes in Nine categories – University, Engineering, College, Management, Pharmacy. Law. Architecture, Medical and Overall ranking, to help create an environment of excellence.
