New Delhi: The Bar Council of India (BCI) is set to scrap the one-year master’s degree programme in law (LLM) in the country from the next academic session. The course won’t continue in any of the law universities in the country.
Now, Students will have to complete a two-year course, comprising four semesters for their LLM degree. The new LLM batch is slated to begin in September, reported ABP Education.
The BCI instead has proposed a Post Graduate Common Entrance Test in Law (PGCETL) for admission to master’s legal courses. It clarified that only LLB students will be eligible to appear for the entrance test.
According to the Council’s Legal Education Rules, 2020, students of no other stream will be able to appear for the entrance test, even if they had individual law subjects in their course.
Candidates will be required to submit their PGCETL scores and other relevant documents to institutes.
