Boom In Gaming Industry Boosts Demand For Animation Experts

New Delhi: There is a boom in the gaming industry opening new opportunities and career paths for game designers, VFX, and animation students. A combination of both technology and creativity, the industry offers roles such as game designer, animator, visual artist, visual effects editor and artiste, sound designer, audio engineer, game developer, programmer, game tester etc.

The recent report by IMARC Group, titled ‘Gaming Market: Global Industry Trends, Share, Size, Growth, Opportunity, and Forecast 2020-2025’, estimates that the global gaming market growth reached a value of US$ 118.7 billion in 2019 and anticipated to reach a value of US$ 204.6 billion by 2020-2025, India Today reported.

Why the boom?

  • The rising penetration of the internet and mobile phones, particularly in the emerging regions, is majorly stimulating the growth of the global gaming market.
  • Manufacturers have introduced downloadable content (DLC) which can range from extensive storylines to aesthetic outfit changes. The increasing sales of wearable gaming devices on account of inflating income levels of the consumers are also providing a thrust to the market growth.
  • The rising adoption of browser and mobile games which provide free-to-play business models, along with a shift from physical to online games are creating a positive outlook for the market.

The global gaming market is anticipated to expand at a CAGR of about 9.5% during 2025, reaching a value of US$ 204.6 Billion by 2020-2025, the report added.

Where do animation experts come in? 

  • There is a growing appetite for engaging, high-definition visual experiences. Moviegoers and Gamers are demanding high-quality productions with engaging visual effects and realistic animation and studios are including more animation and VFX shots into films and games.
  • The demand for animation, VFX and video gaming has expanded with the increase in targeted broadcasting hours by cable and satellite TV, availability of low-cost internet access, penetration of mobile devices along with the growing popularity of streaming video.
  • The demand for animation and VFX content to power immersive experiences such as Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality is growing exponentially.
  • The rapid advancement of technology has made animation, VFX and games available to the masses, and this industry has become one of the fastest-growing segments in the global media and entertainment market.

With 1.3 billion people and two-thirds of them under the age of 35 – the world’s largest youth population, India is poised to become one of the world’s leading markets for gaming. This surge is new, the report added.
