Central Universities, IITs Take Online Route For Final Year Students

New Delhi: During this COVID-19 induced lockdown, the operating procedures for schools and colleges still remain uncertain. Though a few have decided their future course of action, many are in utter confusion.

However, it may be noted that several Central Universities and engineering colleges have decided to do away with the final year exams so that the students don’t lose placements.

According to a report in The Indian Express, Hyderabad Central University (HCU), IIT-Kharagpur, IIT-Bombay and IIT-Kanpur have taken a call to assess the final-year students on their mid-semester grades and other types of continuous appraisal.

On the other hand, Jawaharlal Nehru University, Delhi University, Aligarh Muslim University, IIT-Delhi and Jamia Millia Islamia will hold assessment either through online process or defer those till the campus reopens.

The final year students of IIT-Delhi have been given the option clear the courses in June by taking online tests and telephonic viva voce. They have also kept an option for the students to graduate regularly after the institutes reopen. Students taking for the second option may have to wait longer, the report said.

“For the final-year students 70% of the evaluation will be on assignments completed throughout the year and the remaining 30 per cent would be based on a two-hour-long online exam,” Aligarh Muslim University’s public relations in-charge M Shafey Kidwai was quoted as saying by the publication.
