Bhubaneswar: Eminent anthropologist-cum-author, Prof Deepak Kumar Behera has taken over as the vice-chancellor of the Kalinga Institute of Social Science (KISS) Deemed to be University here on Tuesday.
Professor Behera has earlier served as the vice-chancellor of the Sambalpur University, Berhampur University and the first vice-chancellor of Rajendra University in Balangir. He has also served as the Fulbright Visiting Professor at the California State University, according to a release.
KISS & KIIT founder Dr Achyuta Samanta congratulated the new vice-chancellor. “KISS is a unique creation of the Almighty. It is the one and only university for tribal children across the globe where as many as 30,000 children are pursuing their studies with the provision of food, accommodation and all other basic amenities absolutely free,” Samanta said.
Professor Behera has to his credit over 120 research publications in reputed journals and edited volumes. Most of his publications are in the fields of “tribal studies” and “children & childhood”. He is also a member of the Editorial Board of the Indian Journals: Oriental Anthropology, Social Change and Journal of Social Sciences.
