New Delhi: Union Education Minister Ramesh Pokhariyal and Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, laid the foundation stone for the main campus of IIT Palakkad at an online event on Saturday.
They also inaugurated the Nila transit campus at the same event, NDTV reported.
State Minister for External Affairs and Parliamentary Affairs V Muraleedharan and Kerala Higher Education Minister KT Jaleel were among the dignitaries who spoke on the occasion.
Praising its impressive growth, Pokhriyal said that the institute has made huge strides since its inauguration in 2015.

He informed that Rs 2,200 crore has been allocated to the Higher Education Funding Agency (HEFA) in the 2020 budget to facilitate infrastructure in higher education institutes. The recently introduced New Education Policy (NEP 2020) reflects this focus, he added.
In addition to the Masters programs introduced in 2017 and 2019, IIT Palakkad offers BTech and MTech programmes in various diciplines. The Doctoral Programmes, which are available for all 8 displines, also started in 2017.
