Kolkata: The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Kharagpur researchers have developed and successfully commercialised a novel diagnostic technology for infectious diseases, including COVID-19.
The flagship product, COVIRAP is developed by lead IIT-Kharagpur researchers Suman Chakraborty, Arindam Mondal and their team. The product has been licensed for commercialisation to the Rapid Diagnostic Group of Companies, India and Bramerton Holdings LLC, US.
A record deal has been signed by the Bramerton Holdings for purchasing global rights for commercially disseminating the COVIRAP technology developed at IIT Kharagpur to various geographical locations in an out of the country.
Rapid Diagnostic has also started adapting the COVIRAP technology platform for both COVID-19 and tuberculosis, in association with IIT-Kharagpur.
“The commercialisation of COVIRAP will initiate complete indigenisation and availability of a large range of affordable healthcare products in the Indian market as well as deep trenches of a large global market that is literally starving for the need of such technology. COVIRAP promises to reach the grass-root level and cater to the needs of the last person of the society,” IIT Kharagpur director VK Tewari was quoted as saying by ABP Education.
