Haridwar: Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee and College of Engineering (COER) have joined hands to adopt five villages in Haridwar district for undertaking COVID-19 preventive measures under the HRD Ministry’s ‘Unnat Bharat Abhiyan’ initiative.
The selected villages are Brahampur, Bajuhedi, Badehi Rajputana, Narsan Kalan and Salempur Rajputana, in Roorkee tehsil.
On a mission to make model coronavirus preventive villages, the institutes will sanitize these five villages and distribute masks, sanitizers and soaps among the villagers and give them them tips on personal hygiene.
“Free medicines are also being distributed to patients and rural medical centers. We have made a detailed chart of all the village families. If someone is in the need of ration and essential services, then they would be provided the same by us,” COER chairperson UC Jain told Hindustan Times.
Besides, IIT Roorkee’s Agriculture Department is also guiding the farmers to maximize their output as well as sanitizing farming tools.
Earlier, IIT Roorkee had developed mobile application Mausam to give real-time weather updates to the farmers.
