New Delhi: More than 470 students will be given PhD degrees in the fifth convocation of the prestigious Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) to be held online on Thursday. Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan will attend the virtual function as the chief guest.
According to the JNU Rector II, Satish Garkoti, 479 PhD students have registered for the convocation.
The varsity will announce their names during the online ceremony and the students can collect the degrees and certificates later, Rector II said.
The university held its first convocation in 1972 under vice-chancellor G Parthasarathi. Since then, the practice stopped only to be resumed in 2018 after almost 46 years with JNU chancellor Dr V K Saraswat attending the function as the chief guest.
Last year too, President Ram Nath Kovind graced the occasion that was held online owing to COVID restrictions.
