New Delhi: The Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) has been ranked in the top 1,000 universities in the QS World University Rankings for the first time. The varsity’s new undergraduate engineering course has now made it eligible for the rating.
It made its debut at the 561-570 ranking band in the rankings that only rate institutions dishing out both undergraduate and postgraduate courses.
Along with the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) in Guwahati, Kanpur, Kharagpur and Madras in rankings, there are altogether 22 Indian institutions in the top 1,000 list in comparison with last year’s 21.
Despite slipping five places to joint 177th position in the global rankings, IIT Bombay retained its position as the top Indian institution for the fourth successive year.
IIT Delhi (185th rank) improved its ranking to go past the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore (186th rank), providing India with three institutions in the world’s top 100. IISc was also announced as the world’s top research university for most citations per faculty member.
