Supreme Court To Hear Plea For Cancellation Of CBSE Compartment Exams

New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Friday will hear a petition against the Central Board of Secondary Education’s (CBSE) decision to hold compartment exams for students of Classes X and XII.

Advocate Shakti Pandey filed the petition on the behalf of 2,10,000 students who were placed in the compartment category after the CBSE released results for the board exams in July.

The petitioner said that it’s impossible for CBSE to hold the compartment exams now because it would put the students’ lives at risk due to the coronavirus pandemic. He also argued that since the compartment exams were not conducted in July, the students were unable to take admissions in universities, India TV reported.

The petitioner appeaked to the SC to direct CBSE to set aside the notifications dated August 6 and August 12, mandating compartment exams.

However, the apex court had earlier rejected a similar plea against CBSE’s August 6 notification. “A substantive petition needs to be filed to assail the August 6 CBSE representation. The CBSE has already given its reasons. You please file the notification. We’ll give you the liberty to do so,” Justice Khanwilkar had ruled.
